Lest we forget

I was at a Remembrance Day ceremony today and it struck how many of the WWII veterans have passed away and how it seems that perhaps the message is not as strong as it was when we were kids. I had my Granddad to tell me firsthand stories about his experiences in the war as a nurse in the British Army. There were two stories that stick out in my memories; the first one is about when he was blasted through a brick wall when a bomb went off nearby. He walked away miraculously with only bruises and minor scrapes. The second was of him finding a barn at night in occupied territory and hiding in it to try and get some rest. When the light of morning broke he found himself lying next to a German soldier who had a bullet hole in his head.

Thank you to all our loved ones who went before us to ensure our freedom. Let us not forget the sacrifices they made… let us not forget the sacrifices our soldiers are making even today.

Let we forget.
